My Social Media Strategy Isn’t Working. Now what?
You have 8 seconds to say your piece
10,000 followers but only getting 10 likes on your posts? Your social media reach is well… Not reaching very far. Our audiences tend to have a short attention span, so you have to capture them in a matter of seconds. Did you know that the average human attention span is around 8.25 seconds? This means that you need to gather the interest of your audience within that small window because once they scroll past, then something else will have their interest- taking you back to square one.
Identify the pieces before you can complete the puzzle
Social media is like a puzzle you have to complete in order to see the bigger picture. From user trends, algorithms, application features, even these pieces are influenced by factors like our behavioural psychology or a country’s stability. So what do you actually have control over in the fast-changing tech world?
- Identify your audience, and we mean really get in there! From who they are, their ages, locations, which social media apps they use the most, their likes and dislikes, what times they are online. We’re talking full on (ethical) stalker mode
- Add a human touch to your brand- Once your audience has been identified, then your brand’s tone and voice can be actualized. Is it professional? Quirky? Make sure your audience feels like there is human behind your brand/service and not just a bot
- Post consistently – I don’t know about you, but if I visit a brand’s page and the last post was in 2020, I will assume they are no longer in business. Stay consistent so that your users get to interact with your content more often, and for sure the algorithms will be in your favour!
- Maximise your reach with the help of Google – Google search ads, Google Display Network and many of its features will push your brand further. Ensure your content is engaging and creative and Google will do the rest!
Research, research and oh – research!
The beauty and sometimes difficulty of the internet is how nothing is constant. There is always a new conversation, song, music video, scandal that people are talking about. So one of the key tips on keeping your content engaging is through constantly learning! Follow different accounts, read articles and keep an open mind. Gaining a solid reach within your social media channels requires you to be as involved as possible with your audience and their habits. If you’ve gotten to the end of this article, pat yourself on the back! Your attention span is not too shabby….
